Honestly, I haven't even begun to think about the Winter Olympics. My brain is still reeling from the first few weeks of school.<br />
<br />
So, I spent some weekends and late nights getting my Winter <span style="font-size: small;">Olympics</span> items updated for 2018.<br />
<br />
If you purchased any of my items back in 2014, you can go to your "purchases" page on Teachers Pay Teachers and get the new and improved items for free. This is my THANK YOU to everyone who purchased from me in the past.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Here are my new items for the 2018 Winter Olympics.</span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Winter-Olympics-PowerPoint-PyeongChang-2018-1045304">Winter Olympic PowerPoint</a>.</span> This one is my favorite! It was a top 100 best seller in 2014. This time it is even better. I have a link to the olympic website to check the medal standings. I also added a link to see an example of "big air" which is a brand new sport to the Winter Olympics. FYI-The link is done is safeshare so that you don't have any iffy ads pop up while you are trying to teach. <br />

At my school we are departmentalized so I teach Science, Social Studies, Writing/Grammar/Spelling. For 1 1/2 hours I will be my son's teacher for these subjects. He will not be in my homeroom, but I will get the experience of teaching him.<br />
<br />
I am typically a very "hands off" parent because I just hate to cross that line between mom and teacher. Since all the teachers know this fact, I wrote this little letter to the two other teacher's who get to also teach my son this year.<br />
<br />
We are teammates which means we have to be in constant contact with each other throughout the day (especially being departmentalized). We call and text each other daily along with spending our conference time together.<br />
<br />
So I wrote this very tongue in cheek letter to them as a play on "those parents" that are always there.<br />
PS. This letter also had a Teacher's Pay Teacher's Gift Card attached to it.<br />
FYI- Best teacher gift EVER is a TPT giftcard!!).<br />

<br />
I worked <u>all weekend</u> using the terminology found on previous reading tests. I realized last year that many of my students had trouble just reading the question and trying to figure out what it was asking.<br />
<br />
I made this <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/3rd-Grade-Reading-STAAR-Bingo-Vocabulary-Game-2952534">Bingo game</a> for them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB4J01Hqide38n4hmS6wcs9_2tICj2Qu_3g7oXnJgaqqS_CJl8nr-qnoAKEDRCJ05NnC2eevzx2KIuXLpnFyypLVxCg6UjiuvOItEZzXKOuHrmXP5cOMRUl3HowNEqjhy_3pjsvJtuaN8/s1600/staar+bingo+reading+cover+pg.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB4J01Hqide38n4hmS6wcs9_2tICj2Qu_3g7oXnJgaqqS_CJl8nr-qnoAKEDRCJ05NnC2eevzx2KIuXLpnFyypLVxCg6UjiuvOItEZzXKOuHrmXP5cOMRUl3HowNEqjhy_3pjsvJtuaN8/s320/staar+bingo+reading+cover+pg.png" width="242" /></a></div>
<br />
Last year I made flashcards for them, but the STAAR test was quickly approaching. This year I am prepared!<br />
<br />
If you are a Texas teacher, then check this <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/3rd-Grade-Reading-STAAR-Bingo-Vocabulary-Game-2952534">Bingo game</a> out at <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/City-Teacher-Goes-Country">Teacher's Pay Teachers.</a> I promise I made it cheap!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4538361813802911794.post-9285642756418670622017-01-08T20:06:00.000-08:002017-01-08T20:22:21.269-08:004 Types of SentencesThis year I have really begun using anchor charts. I know, teachers have used them for years and I'm just now getting on the bandwagon. Most times I scour Pinterest and then copy from the ones posted online. I normally NEED inspiration and then I can create it.<br />
<br />
BUT, this time I used my own little brain to make one... SEE. Isn't it cute!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzh7qniKCWlModv_MWexl8Zlw8iwccsTd2dXMlnf1R3INQDoM3ZMn1g6Wzll_CegtaBJOHygb8mwDIXjfl2OXGPfLEnPMc4maVVCcIGZp23L7JThbABW__pVX_EsizRTr8x24g3ya3PSI/s1600/20161227_125124.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzh7qniKCWlModv_MWexl8Zlw8iwccsTd2dXMlnf1R3INQDoM3ZMn1g6Wzll_CegtaBJOHygb8mwDIXjfl2OXGPfLEnPMc4maVVCcIGZp23L7JThbABW__pVX_EsizRTr8x24g3ya3PSI/s400/20161227_125124.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
I always use the "Land of Tive" story to teach the 4 different kinds of sentences and I needed a visual to go with the story. This is what I made. Note, I am NOT an artist or claim to be one, but my class is always impressed and that is what counts. Right?!<br />

<br />
Two years ago I made a Winter Olympics PowerPoint and I had tons of great response about it. This year (even though it is not during school months) I went ahead and made a similar ppt for the summer games.<br />
<br />
I've already shown it to my own children as we have begun discussing it at home and they are now fired up about watching it.<br />
<br />
I am also teaching a summer reading program through our school district and town library. This years' theme is "heroes". One of the lessons will be on the Olympics and the Olympic Heroes. So I am going to be able to use it for that lesson also.<br />
<br />
You can find my PowerPoint <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Summer-Olympics-2016-Rio-PowerPoint-2601389">here.</a><br />

I dread grading papers everyday!! LOL!!<br />
<br />
But every once in awhile you get a paper from a child that makes you chuckle. Here is a picture of a recent spelling test.<br />

<br />
For something special for the volunteers I made this 7 layer dip but with a Christmas twist.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3sAjdMi12KFA3Yi1zvd3BQfcgg0r1nWX8kpEprqBW-h8EOLv8hS6pUpYW7U8RFHmzYkYSaB9AAnXGh6wRpBeXvWEMYz5X9BtoehwzdNporSVZVtTkbH2Jhci1rzcXu-t9iA3jIsGwFf4/s1600/IMG_4547.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3sAjdMi12KFA3Yi1zvd3BQfcgg0r1nWX8kpEprqBW-h8EOLv8hS6pUpYW7U8RFHmzYkYSaB9AAnXGh6wRpBeXvWEMYz5X9BtoehwzdNporSVZVtTkbH2Jhci1rzcXu-t9iA3jIsGwFf4/s320/IMG_4547.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I used my angel food cake pan to make the mold.<br />
I layered in the: refried beans, shredded cheese, guacamole, sour cream, olives, salsa, lettuce and added the cute tomatoes for a finishing touch. Then refrigerated until we were ready to leave.<br />
<br />
I set it out with a few bags of chips on the church kitchen counter and then went to deliver some food. When we came back to the church there were about 4 scoops of the dip left and the 3 lonely tomatoes laying on the tray. :) I'd have to say it was a hit.<br />

You can see my previous post <a href="http://cityteachergoescountry.blogspot.com/2014/01/christmas-plates.html">here</a> where I have pictures of all my plates and the directions.<br />
<br />
Last year, I decided I had enough plates and decided to go with bowls. <a href="http://cityteachergoescountry.blogspot.com/search/label/Christmas">Here</a> is last year's bowl.<br />
<br />
This year we did another bowl.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTuq7wkmLGvxGWoLyfXDEaN7IIPeSGzavR4dc39s4b9K7XeYeAwa53r0L8xfLinVXshyphenhyphenLm-QZIgf8tagqz2IM36j70IS4JaIij1sVXasev8IdVp0p1PfsiNdp4pJvljFV0Uw1pnMFXGEM/s1600/IMG_4564.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTuq7wkmLGvxGWoLyfXDEaN7IIPeSGzavR4dc39s4b9K7XeYeAwa53r0L8xfLinVXshyphenhyphenLm-QZIgf8tagqz2IM36j70IS4JaIij1sVXasev8IdVp0p1PfsiNdp4pJvljFV0Uw1pnMFXGEM/s320/IMG_4564.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used their fingerprints to make the reindeer and santa. (Their hands and feet have gotten too big..sniff...sniff). Also- On each dish I have their name, age, and year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhOl23LaGCD0VRuSUvvfUICFl7pdUhCGQLmlsOZioHq-T-jOIMnXUK1tQ-JTrpjhNHn2u2FqG0SbUfkaC1XRWVeHfRBvGb-1BlEuo7dfHSsbw-ol0UnAVrJ8GDb64bBvcIRMgK7QFKuXw/s1600/IMG_4563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhOl23LaGCD0VRuSUvvfUICFl7pdUhCGQLmlsOZioHq-T-jOIMnXUK1tQ-JTrpjhNHn2u2FqG0SbUfkaC1XRWVeHfRBvGb-1BlEuo7dfHSsbw-ol0UnAVrJ8GDb64bBvcIRMgK7QFKuXw/s320/IMG_4563.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The only thing I suggest is to <span style="font-size: x-large;">USE</span> the "Porcelaine 150" paint. (I got it at Michaels).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6hLNlCp8C2nqWXPt2mMbN9TT9AjnypzxW-AXDnKV2Uqa9YyoSVpiZM5Q7QUB-uN4jItBTZNw2Wpa90kPcUL0QqUICNGb8kzOIJPteNcmkRZcgI_5WtmNIyJKGBeoja2MlJgaRuc4n1fo/s1600/IMG_4567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6hLNlCp8C2nqWXPt2mMbN9TT9AjnypzxW-AXDnKV2Uqa9YyoSVpiZM5Q7QUB-uN4jItBTZNw2Wpa90kPcUL0QqUICNGb8kzOIJPteNcmkRZcgI_5WtmNIyJKGBeoja2MlJgaRuc4n1fo/s320/IMG_4567.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Last year I used these "painters" pens and they <span style="font-size: x-large;">did not</span> hold up nearly as well. I put the dishes in the dishwasher (like I had done previous years with the Porcelaine Paint) but it came off or peeled and moved locations on the plate. So don't use the below paints!! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgtgOXReOd9AREgP9SWirpssYUjGhb2mjGVtcqa3PzKSUKOsm5zeQ1nLUuTg21-ZKwyt7lLKt-BMlCjGsEyk6IiOqI8AxU6nlHFzXUbC4Xt8OTja3If-vk7v6QP48z3DYBz5uDavV6qhQ/s1600/IMG_4565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgtgOXReOd9AREgP9SWirpssYUjGhb2mjGVtcqa3PzKSUKOsm5zeQ1nLUuTg21-ZKwyt7lLKt-BMlCjGsEyk6IiOqI8AxU6nlHFzXUbC4Xt8OTja3If-vk7v6QP48z3DYBz5uDavV6qhQ/s320/IMG_4565.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Once again, see my instructions <a href="http://cityteachergoescountry.blogspot.com/2014/01/christmas-plates.html">here</a> for how to directions and more pictures. </span></div>

I'm crazy, I know.<br />
<br />
I spent 3 days painting bookshelves and baseboards in my classroom. Then I got down to business of going through everything the previous 3rd grade teacher left me. Then I FINALLY was able to sort and organize. MY FAVORITE!! Yes, I am type A personality, left brained, or a gold personality...take your pick!<br />
<br />
I have to share with you the one person I am obsessed with. "<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Krista-Wallden">Creative Clips</a>" by Krista Wallden. She is the most amazing seller on <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Krista-Wallden">TPT</a>!! I used her <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREE-Rainbow-Gift-Tags-Creative-Clips-Digital-Clipart-1152819">FREE labels</a> everywhere in my new classroom, and I mean everywhere!!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Krista-Wallden">She</a> has a zillion free items to download. Click<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREE-Rainbow-Gift-Tags-Creative-Clips-Digital-Clipart-1152819"> here</a> for the labels. :)<br />
<br />
She has a <a href="http://thecreativechalkboard.blogspot.com/">blog</a> and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TheCreativeChalkboard">Facebook</a> too!<br />
<br />
Here are a few pictures of her art in my classroom. (Remember, my room is still a work in progress at the moment).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicH02itd8iepkYfcuL6e7GBzmvVXzQCqIkMUT1EtuTH1-OSH_1XsG2ThJhdOhPenjMqTKotgW6ZnZ67C_uWnOSsJzgzc71kTrDZKQ8qbtlx8y7QtskGHWtzmTJiZm22tPZ-1F0jEpFmEw/s1600/IMG_3918.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicH02itd8iepkYfcuL6e7GBzmvVXzQCqIkMUT1EtuTH1-OSH_1XsG2ThJhdOhPenjMqTKotgW6ZnZ67C_uWnOSsJzgzc71kTrDZKQ8qbtlx8y7QtskGHWtzmTJiZm22tPZ-1F0jEpFmEw/s320/IMG_3918.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Here are the labels for my books bins. The white tubs on the top of my shelf are my reading centers (using her cute labels).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJNOVimk6ADsvbFdHqnHaqi29SAYcKgpcTz-3Rlf6gjtIxBOhYCCyWQC_SaS3rBcgVTuNt5oMaYC02hLPkmuNBYD-JFbiuJFKRrhblZWMlRe9g63Jd9cISgyCtBN0B3MEkFayLPL0bLCE/s1600/IMG_3921.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJNOVimk6ADsvbFdHqnHaqi29SAYcKgpcTz-3Rlf6gjtIxBOhYCCyWQC_SaS3rBcgVTuNt5oMaYC02hLPkmuNBYD-JFbiuJFKRrhblZWMlRe9g63Jd9cISgyCtBN0B3MEkFayLPL0bLCE/s320/IMG_3921.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is a bad picture of my storage cabinet. I just love seeing my bins labeled! It makes me happy!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

And my math manipulatives, of course, are labeled.<br />
<br />
I also made a job chart using her labels and all my stacking trays to store paper and turn in assignments are done with these labels. :) I'm a happy girl!<br />

<br />
*I used strips of butcher paper scrunched up to make the border (my FAVORITE borders).<br />
*I had to track down a gas station that sells maps to cut out the letters. BTW- Finding maps is much harder than I thought! I think craft stores have scrapbook paper that look like maps, but I leave 45mins from the nearest craft store.<br />
*That bottom left corner is a file folder full of registration forms.<br />
*The leaves - I saw a template of the leaves <a href="http://frombeccashome.blogspot.com/p/free-templates.html">here.</a> I did not have the right stuff downloaded on my computer so I eyeballed the leaf and made my own.<br />
<br />
I also have a board on Pinterest with my VBS pins if you are interested in more of what I have found so far.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This next one I thew up in literally 3 minutes. I was SICK of the one I had of previously, but with only a few weeks of school left, I didn't want to put much effort into it.</span></span></div>

With the big state standardized test around the corner, I was racking my brain trying to think of new and fun ideas to get them ready.<br />
<br />
Years ago with my old 3rd grade math team we had put word problems around the room like a scavenger hunt. So I took this idea tried to expand on it.<br />
<br />
I was given a resource of math problems that were similar to the test. BORING!! Both for the kids and me. I cut them apart, glue and laminated them, and made a worksheet to help them show their work and also cross out the wrong answer choices. This was on green so I gave it a "recycling/green" theme. I
added a clock for the time problem. I also added the graph because I
want them to write all over the graph to show their work. Ill tape the problems around the room and they can go find them and solve, or you can rotate them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLMz1FII1SxQ_fLxe50nEDgFRruXDLnG-8YDBcEOIj7Hk2rp-2myRob7RQJGrvO50StoY3bySiyV0crrqgIhqfrNYQcvE6EYxR84CkZH4gB8VtgMzKiLSbu3LLSWL2EWssEnoQElw635U/s1600/IMG_3006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLMz1FII1SxQ_fLxe50nEDgFRruXDLnG-8YDBcEOIj7Hk2rp-2myRob7RQJGrvO50StoY3bySiyV0crrqgIhqfrNYQcvE6EYxR84CkZH4gB8VtgMzKiLSbu3LLSWL2EWssEnoQElw635U/s1600/IMG_3006.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I became a little more creative (I use that word loosely) and involved the dicut machine. Since it is close to Easter and the bunny dicut was one of the largest. I glued the problem to the bunny. For the large problem, I used two. I also created a student response page (it is at school, not home for me to take a pic tonight, but it was really cute).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnORV8LNkGBMjnB-wiVWTLy5YyBgE5n5qvSUG6cYFY6TMiSeT6eyY4WE6t1LB5jpB7duCvEfsIKq7QQ4bduSZZsHclAOMUIX5S0WoswDfWdCTwLD7qF4N5PjfbOAvK_g93zxh9WAfu_jQ/s1600/IMG_3005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnORV8LNkGBMjnB-wiVWTLy5YyBgE5n5qvSUG6cYFY6TMiSeT6eyY4WE6t1LB5jpB7duCvEfsIKq7QQ4bduSZZsHclAOMUIX5S0WoswDfWdCTwLD7qF4N5PjfbOAvK_g93zxh9WAfu_jQ/s1600/IMG_3005.JPG" height="320" width="240" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My final idea is an actual Easter egg hunt with word problems in the plastic eggs hidden around the classroom or outside if the weather permits. They can use notebook paper or teacher made response sheet and clipboards.</div>

I opted to do this once I had kids as a cute keepsake. Plus the penny pincher I am, never jumped in and bought a set of the cute pricey dishes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This year I decided I had enough plates from previous years, a platter from last year, so this year I began bowls. Here is the finished product:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhezf2Juc6LvSvzFSuqczU2hVJ4xGoQL3iAUKveXtXSbbOyVg4zO3LdS1MhzEHsSY398wMoErB0nnDh7POZ5YjekhhyphenhyphenGjYU1Z5uA6E5Ab5puP8air4kfpoPn3-y3SmrxU5eHkX5_eHg4GQ/s1600/IMG_2755.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhezf2Juc6LvSvzFSuqczU2hVJ4xGoQL3iAUKveXtXSbbOyVg4zO3LdS1MhzEHsSY398wMoErB0nnDh7POZ5YjekhhyphenhyphenGjYU1Z5uA6E5Ab5puP8air4kfpoPn3-y3SmrxU5eHkX5_eHg4GQ/s1600/IMG_2755.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">To see my previous post and pictures of my previous dishes click <a href="http://cityteachergoescountry.blogspot.com/2014/01/christmas-plates.html" target="_blank">here.</a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Tip: I've seen all the pins on pinterest about using a regular sharpie and baking it on your dishes. DON'T!!! I did that last year with red for a red scallop on the edge of my plate. When I pulled it out and rinsed it off to dust it off, the red all ran off. Yes, I had baked it like the pins said. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So instead, I found in the Walmart craft section, that Sharpie actually now makes pens for dishes. I don't remember the cost, but I think it was about $8 for a 4 pack. So far so good with those, and the ink is holding tight.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">For the bowl, I painted the green with my new sharpie paint pens, and used the red paint on their fingertips and they dotted the red berries.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Now, my next trouble is figuring out what to do next year on the bowl. I need more bowls and I'm short on ideas. Also, at this point my kids' hands and feet are getting too big to make more plates. :)</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4538361813802911794.post-38655097729556978422014-12-11T18:28:00.001-08:002014-12-11T18:28:48.749-08:00December FunniesI had to share these two goodies I saw on Facebook.<br />

Once that was finally done (4 hours later...stupid pre-lit trees that are no longer pre-lit!! UGH!!) I realized, that in our house, once the tree goes up, Max our Elf on the Shelf returns. Panic set it.<br />
<br />
Last year I made a nifty little calendar to help me keep track and not worry about ideas as my head hit the pillow. It worked out great, minus the days we were snowed in at my in-laws an hour away. <br />
<br />
So, I have made my 2014 Elf calendar to share with you at <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/4zfg8kzi1mu0p4d/dec%20elf%20calendar%202014.pdf?dl=0" target="_blank">dropbox</a>. You can click on this <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/4zfg8kzi1mu0p4d/dec%20elf%20calendar%202014.pdf?dl=0" target="_blank">link</a> and it will take you to dropbox where you can download the calendar for free. You can also see last year's calendar <a href="http://cityteachergoescountry.blogspot.com/2013/11/elf-on-shelf-calendar.html" target="_blank">here</a> for more ideas.<br />
<a href="//www.pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcityteachergoescountry.blogspot.com%2F2014%2F11%2Felf-on-shelf-2014.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-3PR0s18xCLI%2FVHqLUDf_AyI%2FAAAAAAAAF1A%2F7yXNUuFH3ko%2Fs1600%2Fcalendar%2Bimage.jpg&description=Elf%20on%20the%20shelf%20calendar%20of%20ideas%20for%202014" data-pin-do="buttonPin" data-pin-config="above" data-pin-color="red" data-pin-height="28"><img src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/pidgets/pinit_fg_en_rect_red_28.png" /></a>

<br />
With the calendar, I have extra pictures and websites that I used to compile this year's list/calendar. Almost everything I pulled from my personal pinterest board, so I don't take any credit for the ideas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgugAupxBLVhlu2XhLtSYvecP4lmmmop0WBUVvdagUVeHA3GjHORESvQHaB8d4f0Fdb5YDtbPhIdP47dHZzxaJalXUldDgHdqRLneh5yapDE5lrLaIxl7aUyc4UO2t5krtDihsvCgXngHU/s1600/IMG_2631.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgugAupxBLVhlu2XhLtSYvecP4lmmmop0WBUVvdagUVeHA3GjHORESvQHaB8d4f0Fdb5YDtbPhIdP47dHZzxaJalXUldDgHdqRLneh5yapDE5lrLaIxl7aUyc4UO2t5krtDihsvCgXngHU/s1600/IMG_2631.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
The above picture is a little hard to see, but tomorrow my boys will find "Max" helping out the Paw Patrol pups. Max is inside their lighthouse, if you can't tell. This was one of my own personal ideas. I had to come up with a few because my calendar begins on Dec 1st and today is Nov 29th.<br />
<br />
I hope you can get a few useful ideas from my calendar. Merry Christmas!!<br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I've been working more fervently with my older preschooler on sight words now that "mommy school" has started again. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Here are a few of the things I have done to help him learn his sight words:</span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> Dotting each sight word with a different color.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkHsz0vbsVv4giwC-zRFlXwNJgD7fVRsAh8KbqjZbeqrqLLoCiBckg-eubL2MfdmZug5MeHIfM0Vwpdf168MeD8JBRMtfomvJoY0uCYvkS8HhVtrwqObX2xzfXI9NyV8upA7aRBJg6rtM/s1600/DSCN1355.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkHsz0vbsVv4giwC-zRFlXwNJgD7fVRsAh8KbqjZbeqrqLLoCiBckg-eubL2MfdmZug5MeHIfM0Vwpdf168MeD8JBRMtfomvJoY0uCYvkS8HhVtrwqObX2xzfXI9NyV8upA7aRBJg6rtM/s1600/DSCN1355.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> Playing tic-tac-toe with the sight words.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-AzzuhHVrmh3_vi_4QWrr9XMBCnzBXioi9yuOCuD3xya6zPBK47dpk7jhdanSY5VA2L2ZAVaXXw5XZWmtRoOrxY9nxrn2dbbooQwWqN_qezEqsgwqIhdq9rN0EZ8B1K5ncfOdl6atZHM/s1600/DSCN1358.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-AzzuhHVrmh3_vi_4QWrr9XMBCnzBXioi9yuOCuD3xya6zPBK47dpk7jhdanSY5VA2L2ZAVaXXw5XZWmtRoOrxY9nxrn2dbbooQwWqN_qezEqsgwqIhdq9rN0EZ8B1K5ncfOdl6atZHM/s1600/DSCN1358.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> Parking lot - cars cover the sight word.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiudr1Kxtn6RV67kLhxm2KfqFUWd9G23Z9LvpwkYZPM9mPjuLzDebL1Fc1AO6EnnkyFxntKKjJ0P8QfqRAfgywG0PfSH2MW13NhfAHrd7M4oIaDaW1dlsEM_RLYf_kXPBFErvy0NRjg2yY/s1600/parking+lot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiudr1Kxtn6RV67kLhxm2KfqFUWd9G23Z9LvpwkYZPM9mPjuLzDebL1Fc1AO6EnnkyFxntKKjJ0P8QfqRAfgywG0PfSH2MW13NhfAHrd7M4oIaDaW1dlsEM_RLYf_kXPBFErvy0NRjg2yY/s1600/parking+lot.jpg" height="320" width="244" /> </a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Coloring - I found a black and white clip art from <a href="http://www.mycutegraphics.com/graphics/graphics.html" target="_blank">My Cute Graphics</a> (it's free) and printed it off. Then I wrote his sight words in the spaces to color. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The kids and I both loved it, but it was a little pricey. So I was thrilled when I ran across this <a href="http://ngexplorer.cengage.com/ngyoungexplorer/moreissues.html" target="_blank">website</a>.<a href="http://ngexplorer.cengage.com/ngyoungexplorer/moreissues.html" target="_blank"> National Geographic</a> has their past issues online that you can read online. This would make a great listening center/computer center with a science theme - I'm just sayin'! :) Besides having the issue online, there is a link to it for teachers to have a study guide and print off worksheets and such...for FREE!! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I ran across this while studying<a href="http://cityteachergoescountry.blogspot.com/2014/08/back-to-school-insects-in-preschool.html" target="_blank"> Insects</a> with my preschooler. He loved listening to the insect stories that were in a few of the issues.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Be sure to check out this great resource! Below is a screen shot of the <a href="http://ngexplorer.cengage.com/ngyoungexplorer/moreissues.html" target="_blank">website</a>. Enjoy!!</span><br />

We did not do much as far as pencil paper learning this summer, so I was ready to go today. I had everything printed, cut out, and ready.<br />
<br />
Even my normally obstinate preschool was ready to learn. He even wanted to do MORE. All I kept thinking was ok, and who is this child!?!? (He's very smart, but won't let on...stinker!!)<br />
<br />
This is the unit we began today. He had a great time, especially since he knew the 3 parts of an insect (head, thorax, abdomen) and his older brother didn't. Nothing like a little sibling rivalry to boost his learning desire!<br />

<br />
We have done almost all the alphabet letters so we will be finishing those off our list first. After that, I'm not sure what we will do. I guess I better get cracking on what to do next.<br />
<br />
Here are a bunch of the books I pulled for us to use with this unit.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here is my favorite link for drawing your own bug and also coloring pages. <a href="http://www.orkin.com/learningcenter/kids-and-teachers-games/" target="_blank">Click HERE</a>. It's free! This was his favorite activity we did together. He designed his own insect using the download from the website above.</h3>
<br />
Below is another activity we did. My son was REALLY into cutting this week, so I had him cut some little marks on a green strip of paper. We then used that strip of green to make an outdoor insect scene. Thankfully, I had some insects stickers on hand to embellish it!<br />
